When you have only one day in Berlin, limit yourself to just get to know the city's most important landmarks. Part of this, is first of all the Kurfürstendamm with the Tauentzienstraße, one of Berlin's most pulsating points in the west of Berlin. You could start with a morning walk over the "Ku'damm" between Adenauerplatz and Uhlandstraße and then stroll in north-east direction, past the many shops to the Breitscheidplatz. There one can admire the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Church and the Europacenter, whose platform offers the best view over Berlin. From the Breitscheidplatz on the Tauentzienstraße continue to the Kurfürstendamm. It reaches the Wittenbergplatz with the famous department store KaDeWe where one can try the most diverse delicacies at the food sections. Take a taxi or the bus No 100 at the Bayreuther Straße, via the Großen Stern with the, as 'Goldelse' (gold Else ) known Siegessäule (victory column) to the Reichstag building. From here, only a few minutes walk, past the former Berlin wall, one reaches the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's landmark

You will reach Paris Square when you walk through this monument, which is the start of the avenue Unter den Linden. It is the starting point for a stroll through the 'old Berlin'. There is a lot to see. On the right hand side is the 'Adlon', which reflects, with its history, the splendour of Berlin's 1920ties and offers once again accommodation to famous personalities from all over the world. Past the famous Friedrichstraße, one can see on the left hand side, the former state library, the Humboldt-University with the monument to Frederic the Great on a horse in the centre of the road and the German State Opera opposite. A bit further left is the Neue Wache and finally the Zeughaus one of the prettiest preserved buildings of the old Berlin with the Crown Prince Palace opposite. Walking over the Palace Bridge one will reach the Lustgarten and the Schlossplatz, which is being dominated by the Berlin Cathedral and the Palace of the Republic. When one uses the Rathaus-Bridge to cross the river Spree, the Nikolai Quarter is just in front, where one can enjoy a well-earned rest in historical surroundings. Not far from the Nikolai Quarter, past the Red Town Hall and the Marien-Church, is the Television tower and the Alexanderplatz, the centre of Berlin's east side. Give your legs a rest here and use the U2 (subway) to the station Hausvogteiplatz. Just a few steps away is the Gendarmenmarkt. Here, on Berlin's probably prettiest square is the Schauspielhaus to be found as well as the German and French Cathedral. End the day here, in one of many restaurants or bars. Should you want to enjoy a more lively evening, go the pubs, clubs and bars in Kreuzberg, centre and Friedrichshain. The nightlife there will most certainly enchant you.
