... two days in Berlin

A second day in Berlin could be spend with a visit to one or several famous museums. Take your preference into account; the Berlin museum landscape is still not united, as a consequence of the 2nd World War and the interlinking will still take years. Even though most of the museums are by now organised and in parts are already at least spatially united. That is why a visit to a rational complimenting museum has to be combined with a trip to another part of the city. Should you be interested in antiquity and archaeology you'll find a great variety in Berlin. The Pergamon Museum with its famous Pergamon altar and the priceless finds of the Middle East comes first. Next to the Pergamon Museum on the Museum Island is the Bode Museum. Here we find the museum for advanced antiquity and Byzantine Art. The Egypt section of the Bode Museum was part of the Egyptian collection from the
New Museum, its other part is situated at the Egyptian Museum at the Palace Charlottenburg. Here is also the famous bust of Nefertiti so that a visit to both collections is sensible. Opposite the Egypt Museum in Charlottenburg lies the antiquity collection again a sensible addition to the same named collection at the Pergamon Museum.

Friends of Fine Arts should visit the National Gallery with its 'New Art' collection on the Museum Island. But don't leave out the New National Gallery in the district Tiergarten. Should you be interested in arts and crafts you will enjoy Berlin. Plan first of all a visit to the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Arts and Crafts Museum) at the Kulturforum. After that, maybe a trip by rail to the Köpenick Palace, the Arts and Crafts Museum there is well worth seeing.
This trip is at the same time a lovely journey to the districts that are located a bit more on the outskirts like the
Müggel-Lake. Berlin offers several town historical collections, which complement each other. First the Berlin Museum at the district Kreuzberg, from where you could walk to the Märkische Bank with the
Märkischen Museum. The exhibits there can be followed up with the
Nikolai-Church at the Nikolai-Quarter. Should you be more interested in ethnological collections, than the museums in Dahlem is the right place. You could spend a whole day without a problem, at the combined museums for ethnology, for
East-Asian Art, for Islamic Art and for Indian Art complemented by the Painting Gallery and the Copper Engraving Cabinet. The nearby Botanical Garden with the Botanical Museum, offers a well-earned respite. Finally, there is another option how you could spend a second day in Berlin for those who are less enthusiastic about art and antiquity. Start with a visit to the Zoological Garden and if you want a comparison, walk to the Animal Park in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde. You may use this day also for short trips to the outskirts and combine it with relaxation. You could also take a trip to the Wannsee, which again can be combined with a visit to Spandau and the Peacock Island. Or, you take a trip into the rural Lübars, with a walk through the Märkische countryside. A journey via Köpenick onto Lake Müggel or a little tour into the Wilhelminian Berlin, to the restored Husemannstraße at the district Prenzlauer Berg is well worth it. From there, you could undertake a little de-tour to the Zeiss-Großplanetarium at the Ernst-Thälmann-Park. If you want to connect East and West take a boat trip on the river Spree from Wannsee to Köpenick.
