The monument of Prince Otto von Bismarck, founder of the Reich, stands rather hidden in Tiergarten at the corner of 'Großer Stern'.

The parliament asked the German sculptor and painter Reinhold Begas to create a national monument of Bismarck for his services at the Reich founding and the first the Reich's chancellor.

Bismarck stands larger-than-life, clothed in a tunic, he holds his right hand over the German Reich's deed of foundation, his left hand holds an epee. At his feet four allegoric groups - Atlas with the globe, Sybille on the back of a sphinx, a woman's figure conquers a tiger, Siegfried forges a sword.

The monument of the 'Iron Chancellor' was made of bronze and red granite and in 1901, erected on the Königsplatz (today Platz der Republik) in front of the Reichstag. The monument was like the Siegessäule (Victory Column) and further monuments of German military leader in the way of national socialists plans for the recreation of Berlin for the Reich's capital 'Germania' and was moved in 1938, into the Tiergarten at the northernmost border of the 'Großer Stern'.
