Berlin has a chequered film history – from the flip-book with first moving pictures to digital film. Great film classics were produced in Berlin.

The German Kinemathek – Museum of Film and Television presents at the picture house in the SonyCenter at the Potsdamer Platz in permanent exhibitions the German and Berlin film history, at the Television Museum the programme's history of the German TV.

Special exhibitions, colloquia and several other events take place here.

At the two cinemas Arsenal 1 and 2 in the basement classic of film history, retrospectives, country series and thematic film series are being shown. The German Kinemathek is responsible for the retrospective of the Berlinale.

Legacies from Marlene Dietrich and Heinz Rühmann are being presented - Heinz Rühmann in his favourite role as clown - cast in bronze on the occasion of the special exhibition 'A good friend - Heinz Rühmann at the 100th birthday' at the Film Museum Berlin in the year 2002.
